Questions regarding Human Rights.

How can Human Rights Standard be more effectively promoted?

Since the beginning of human kind civilization, the most appropriate ways to express and promote our ideas has been demonstrate them, put them on practice and award them. And in international relations specifically human rights that concept is not the exception. In order to promote a massive human rights campaign that englobes the entire humanity and society we must demonstrate that our governments and leaders respect and put them on practice.

First of all, in order to promote the human rights standard worldwide we must demonstrate that our human rights are being fulfilled. We must stop signs of human rights abusive acts in mass media, instead, we must promote campaigns that help to enhance the concept of equality of classes, respect and sympathy between the different groups of population. With this initiative children will grow with the perspective that respect and careness is part of our human life and that human rights are implicit in our lives.

Secondly, we really need to take actions to put the Human Rights in the road. We need to enforce or regulations and laws to make human rights be respected at any cost, specially those that are related to freedom. Is not possible that in the 21st century there are still cases in which human beings are being slaved by others. It is not possible that in the 21st century there are still misconceptions on who is greater than other. It is not possible that in the 21st century there are still hate against problems of genres. We really need to work on rules to stop abuse of powers like we have been seen lately. Without enforcement of regulations all other iniciatives to promote human rights would be pointless.

Lastly, we must award to those who have worked to inspired others to work for the good of civilization. It has happened probably in the past few years, but is not greater enough. We must recognize to nations, societies, governments or citizens that have worked for the good of their communities or for the good of the entire world. Not only to send a trophy by mail but bring social incentives to these nation’s personalities in order to promote others to do the same.

Is it more effective to use sticks (threats or punishments) or carrots (promises of rewards for better behaviors) to improve respect for human rights?

We really need to stop thinking in a dual way of sense, if the answer is not letter A then it has to be letter B. No, that is not the future. Future is a mixture of possibilities between letter A and letter B. In the case of human rights and what is better to apply in order to improve respect for human rights sticks or carrots? Well it depends on the situation and context. Sometimes it may be better to use sticks. For example an abusive raper who mistreated many young childs deserves several years on prision (which will be the punishment. But in the other hand, a government applying on it’s territoy a new human right program it may use carrots to promote and for the program to be attractive for the population.

We must be intelligent and use the possibilities in our favor. Depending on the situation the response can be different.

It has been my pleasure to expose my points of views in this subject along the course. I want to thank my teacher and to all my classmates for make this program possible.
