Idea 1: AI can free designers from basic and repeating design works

Based on the current AI technology, I think in the next few decades AI can free designers from basic and repeating design works and help them have more time on perfecting the end products and creating and thinking about ethic things like ‘how to make it a better world with design’.

With AI, conducting user research and user testing will be much easier and I think the robot will do a better job than humans. There will be the smart assistant as a researcher with emotion recognition technology which helps them read human emotions and with natural language generation technology they can generate questions themselves based on the interview script from designers (like the Google Assistant from Google I/O 2018). Also, the smart assistant can recruit participants by making phone calls and analyzing the survey data which will save designers a lot of time. Natural language generation technology can convert data into text which can generate the report from the data they collect from the user testing and the conversation between research (or the machine) and participants.

AI also can help the designer with wireframe design and visual design. There are tons of design principles like iOS Design Guideline, Material Design Guideline, grid design styles like Bootstrap, and some other design principles, AI will do a better job than human beings in remembering these principles and analyzing millions of design works they will be able to generate wireframe themselves (like the ‘Explore’ in the PowerPoint). It’ll help small companies save money and time. Image resizing and color adjustment can be done by robots, also there is already technology that can identify sketches and then convert them into prototype and code.

But who knows what the interaction between human and computers will look like in 100 years. Maybe there won’t be screens anymore.

Idea 2: AI can help people think and generate ideas.

In the future, I hope AI can be a real assistant to human beings’ lives, like a friend but expert in everything.

The device we use can generate ideas and advice based on the information it gathered around us and its infinite knowledge base. Not just asking us questions and then reacting to our questions based on the default command, but giving advice and solutions with more advanced intelligence and thinking than humans.
