Myth about Programming

Let’ say you want to achieve the goal which is to swim point A to point B in the programming world.

When you started to learning programming and you’re self-taught, I straight jump into the water and paddle, paddle, and paddle and not aware of the current, wind and the size of the swell. To get point A to point B, you need to paddle for sure but there’s a definitely better way to get through that goal.

One of the key aspects of a being a good programmer is as our instructor says “breaking your project/product/code up into smaller pieces. “

When I started Bootcamp, I dive into code then I would get stuck and becoming overwhelmed by large project/product/code and don’t know what’s the next stop or even I was not able to explain what I’ve got so far and what I wanted to do for the next strop in order to make progress. So the key point is breaking a big chunk of code into small piece and do it one step by step.

Pseudocode is pretty damn important.

Once you breaking your project/product/code up into smaller pieces, you should be able to Pseudocode for what you are trying to achieve. Then translate into Pseudocode to a programming language.

Another key aspect of being a good programmer is that research skill. Let’s say I have some feature I want to implement on my web. Although probably I’m not cable of writing from scratch, think “Am I the only who wants to implement this feature?”If the answer is no, there are most likely there are some library or framework or even blog posts someone has done it. If that is the case, use it in order to make our lives easier and for the sake of times.
