My goal for this article is to share my own trial and error experience with losing and maintaining a healthy weight. Clever tricks that keep me on track and to inspire others to change their thinking about what is possible.

From the time I was a teenager all the way through my 40s, I was able to drop a few pounds like it was nothing, I was used to fluctuating up and down within a 10 pound margin that I just made sure I didn’t go over. I had always heard that after 50 you won’t be able to lose weight so easy. I didn’t believe it though, I was still invincible. But, everything changed after I turned 52 years old, suddenly it was like I got a new body, and not in a good way.

Though our metabolisms do change as we get older, that doesn’t mean we should give up and quit trying. It just means that it is harder, but now we are wiser, stronger and can handle struggle even better.

Somewhere around 26 years ago, a well known celebrity published a book with a diet strategy that resonated with me so well, that the days of me having to go two or three days without eating were over. This diet was basically, that you stop all sugar, alcohol, white starchy food. Eat your proteins, fats, and vegatables together, OR eat your carbs and vegetables together, but not within three hours of each other. That worked for me for many years without fail and without hunger, then after 52 it stoped working affectively. I could eat the proteins and fats, but noticed a difference if I ate carbs. I struggled a couple of years tweaking my diet to see what would work, and this is what I learned.

There is science behind how and why any certain diet works, but not all bodies are the same, all of the time, due to hormone changes. That is why a diet that might be successful for one person will not necessarily work for another person. I know from experience that you have to find what works for you.
