How You Can Overcome One of Your Biggest Barriers to Learning

One of the biggest barriers to learning or trying something new is FEAR.

I was out in the West yesterday, and I heard this amazing statement from someone who was involved with a lot of criminal restoration work.

He said,

“People fear what they don’t understand, so go understand it!”

A mic-drop moment.

You are fearful because you don’t really know what you are getting into. You don’t know what might happen. You are uncertain of the outcome that could happen.

Another way of defining FEAR, can also be described by the commonly used acronym — “False Evidence Appearing Real”.

False because all our thoughts about the worse case scenarios that could potentially happen, all our thoughts about the negative consequences, the losses, harm, damage and liabilities are very often massive assumptions on our part.

Assumptions that have not been challenged nor investigated with much care or detail. Assumptions that are not properly understood.

We often allow our thoughts(the fearful and negative ones) to run around like untamed lions in the back of our mind, roaring and causing all sorts of anxiety in us.

The truth is you can take that lion, stake it on the ground and find out that it is naught but a purring little kitten putting up a big fuss, a massive facade.

How? By getting really clear on 3 things. By writing them down on paper and defining them clearly.

Give this exercise a shot, and see what it does to your fears!

Remember, where fear is present, faith is not!
